Q

Effect of Light intensity on the rate of photosynthesis

A
  1. 20cm3 of Sodium hydrogen carbonate solution in a boiling tube
  2. 10cm of pondweed with paper clip to one end
  3. Clamp boiling tube in place
  4. Place meter ruler next to clamp stand
  5. Place lamp 10cm away from pondweed
  6. Wait 2 mins until pond weed produces bubbles
  7. Count number of bubbles produced per minute using stopwatch
  8. Repeat steps 5-7 moving lamp 10cm further each time
  9. Repeat experiment twice more

Q

Photosynthesis limiting reactant graph shape

A

Increasing the limiting reactant increases the rate of photosynthesis, however after a certain point the graph shape plateus as something else becomes the limiting reactant

Q

Features of a greenhouse that increase rate of photosynthesis and therefore plant growth

A

Temperature- Sun’s rays are trapped as heat in a greenhouse
Light intensity- Greenhouses are see through and often have artificial lights
Carbon dioxide- Paraffin heater heats the greenhouse and produces carbon dioxide

14
Q

Why does the heart rate increase when we exercise

A

When someone execises theior muscles need more energy to move. The heart rate increases so more blood and oxygen can be pumped around the body to the muscles that need it, this oxygen is then used in respiration to get more energy for the muscles

16
Q

Metabolism definition

A

The sum of all the reactions in a cell or the body

17
Q

Metabolic processes include

A

Respiration
Amino acids join to form proteins
Glucose converted to startch

18
Q

What causes an oxygen debt in detail

A

Lactic acid is produces and is transported to the liver where it is converted back to glucose but oxygen is needed for this
Oxygen debt is the amount of oxygen needed for this
