15.5 Combustion Flashcards
(7 cards)
What components make up a combustion chamber
Casing
Flame tube
What is the ideal fuel mixture with air
15 parts air to 1 part fuel, 15:1
What two parts is airflow split into and what are the percentages
Primary for combustion, 20-30%
Secondary for cooling, 70-80%
What is the different between can-type and can-annular combustion chambers
Can type have individual casings and flame tubes
Can annular have one outer and inner casing and have individual flame tubes
What characteristic does an annular type have
One annular outer and inner casing and one flame tube
Two types of cooling and how it works
Film cooling - creates film on inner surface of liner
Transpiration - airflow enters the flame tube through radial holes in the liner. This air then flows through the gap between the liner segments and the liner.
What are the main pollutants
Hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide
