What is a Baud Rate?
the number of symbols (or symbol changes) that are transferred across a network in a set amount of time
What is Baud rate based on?
- Baud rate is based on the number of bits encoded in each signal change; so, for example, where eight bits are encoded into a signal change the bit rate will be eight times higher than the baud rate.
What is bit rate?
- is the number of bits transferred across network in a set amount of time; normally measured in bits per second
What us bandwidth?
is the speed of a network or the maximum rate at which data is transferred.
What is bandwidth measured in?
It is normally measured in hertz (Hz) and indicates the maximum amount of data that can pass from one point to another in a unit of time.
What is bit rate directly proportional to?
Bit rate is directly proportional to bandwidth.
What is latency
is the term used in a packet switched network to measure the time delay between the source sending a data packet and the destination receiving that packet.
What is ping?
Ping is a network utility used to measure latency; it works by calculating the time taken for a round trip of a data packet between its source and destination.
What is a protocol?
a set of rules or standards which computers use for communication
Give an example of a protocol?
An example of a protocol is TCP/IP which provides a unique identifier for a device or computer, known as its IP address, and the transmission control protocol (TCP) sets the standard for the delivery of information packets across networks.
