Macbeth was written during the reign of King James I who was a supporter and patron of Shakespeare’s work. This consequently meant that Shakespeare was greatly influenced by the king

King James had a great interest in witches so much so he wrote a book on it
The book may have been used when writing Macbeth as witches are presented as evil
