What should you do when working with tools & machinery?

A

● Never leave machinery unattended while switched on.
● Never use a machine or hand tool unless you have been shown how to.
● Use guards on machines that have them.
● Use a dust extractor of the process produces dust.
● Carry and store sharp tool safely.
● Know how to turn off an machine in a emergency.
● When working with machinery make sure: Sleeves are rolled back, ties are tucked in or took off, necklaces etc taken off and long hair tied back.
● Always secure work safety - e.g. clamp work before cutting.

A

A document used to identify and minimise any risks when working.

How do you handle materials and waste sensibly?

A
  • Dispose of waste properly so that it doesn’t harm the environment.
  • Make sure materials are safe to handle - file down rough edges, let pieces cool down.
  • When storing materials do so safety i.e. so they can’ fall.
  • When using toxic chemicals i.e. solvents make sure there is adequate ventilation to avoid inhalation of vapours.
  • Keep flammable liquids away from naked flames.
