He was made regent in several occasions which meant whilst William was away he ruled England
- he clearly believed Odo was a reliable and capable deputy however he did often share the position with others such as Lanfranc

A

-He planned a campaign to Italy where he would be made pope and force others to support him
- William ordered him to not do it but Odo did not listen
- infuriated by this he arrested and imposed Odo in Normandy and kept him there for the rest of his reign

  • Odo continued causing problems for the new king Rufus and became a central figure in the rebellion against him
  • when he failed he was banished and died on a crusade to Jerusalem
