what is the chromatic scale
played by using every note including sharps and flats
what is a pedal
a bass note (a low note ) either repeated or held continuously while the parts and chords change above it
What is an inverted pedal
when a note is held in the same manner but is not the lowest note
ie either a high note or mid range note
what is a counter melody
a melody played it sung at the same time as another melody. It’s different from an accompaniment as it should be able to stand as it’s own melody
What is a rubato
when the tempo of the music speeds up and slows down for expressive effect
it’s up to the performer when the tempo changes

- piccolo ( flute and is the highest instrument in the orchestra )
- tuba ( lowest member of the brass family )
- harp ( became popular during the romantic period )
- saxophone ( made of brass but is played using a single reed so is woodwind )
