What does Open Wound involve?
Breaks in the skin.
How does an Open Wound should be initially be cleaned?
With an antimicrobial solution (such as Betadine) and irrigated with sterile water as necessary, making sure to remove dirt and debris.
What does applying an antibiotic ointment will prevent?
The wound from sticking to the sterile dressing.
If bleeding in Open Wounds cannot be controlled, what does the MA should be prepared to?
Asset the provider with suturing or stapling.
When does a Tetanus shot may be necessary?
If the patient’s vaccination are not up to date.
What is an Abrasion?
Superficial layers fo skin are scraped away (also called “scrape” or “road rash”)
What is an Avulsion?
Partial or complete tearing of the skin that may look like a flap.
What is an Incision?
Caused by a sharp object that leaves a clean cut such as knife or shard of glass.
What is a Laceration?
Torn or jagged wound.
What is a Puncture?
Small hole caused by a pointy object, such as nail or tooth.
