What is a sacrament?
A sacrament is an outward sign of an inward grace instituted by Christ. In order to give grace to a human being
Why are sacraments essential in the life of Catholics?
Help Catholics relive the Grace of God, helps them strength their faith, brings Catholics closer to God and marks journey of faith from birth to death
What is baptism?
The initiation to the Church making them a Christian, it gets rid of their original sin. The outward sign in the pouring of water, blessing by priest and inward sign in the person now belongs to Jesus
Why is baptism important?
The person becomes a member of the Church, Baptism washes away original sin, Baptism shows publicly the person is a Christian, copies Jesus as he was baptised in the Bible, have to do this sacrament to do the others and seen necessary for salvation
What is reconciliation?
When yours sins are forgiven as Jesus told the apostles to forgive sins in his name, this authority has been passed down from pope to pope to bishops to priest
Why is reconciliation important?
It allows Catholics to be released from their sins, Jesus took Catholics sins so they can enter heaven, allows presets to give advice on living a better life and it allows Catholics to see the mercy of God
What is the Orthodox view on sacraments?
Same as Catholics however have different traditions when performing them like the dunk children in Baptism
What is most Protestant’s view on sacraments?
That there is only two; Baptism and Holy Communion as these were the only ones done by Jesus in the Bible
What are some Christians anti-sacraments beliefs?
They believe should focus on word of God and on living a good life instead,
What type of Protestant’s have no sacraments?
Quakers and the Salvation Army

What is the liturgical year?
Catholics move through different periods where the focus of the worship changes, like between Easter and Christmas
What is liturgical worship?
When a Church service has set rituals, prayers and patterns, for exmaple in Catholic Church the always have the same structure outlined in the Order of Mass
What is the Order of Mass for Catholics?
Introduction Rights, penitential rite(acknowledge sin), a set scripture is read, liturgy of eucharist, Eucharistic prayer, Eucharist and concluding rite
Why is Mass important to Catholics?
During mass, bread and wine is turned into the body and blood to Jesus through transubstantiation and participation in Mass forgives venial sins and is a celebration of the gift of salvation and so helps Catholics get to heaven
Why might someone think liturgical worship is better than non-liturgical worship?
It helps people focus only on worshipping God and not just what randomly comes into their head and is Catholics way of living out what ahppened at the last supper
Why might someone think non-liturgical worship is better than liturgical worship?
It helps prayer be personal and authentic and helps people listen to what God is saying to them rather than traditional rules and prayers
What happens at a Catholic Funeral?
The Vigil, Introductory rites, Liturgy of the Word, Liturgy of the Eucharist, Final commendation, Rite of Committal, Communion with the deceased, The Communion of the Community and The proclamation of eternal life
Explain two things in detail that happen at a Catholic funeral?
Liturgy of the Word - Reading chosen from the Bible, they will Jesus on the hope the Church has in Jesus and eternal life and as a source of hope in the face of death and darkness.
The vigil - the community gathers evening before funeral to pray and keep watch on the family
Why might come people believe a Catholic funeral is not useful?
Humanists and Atheists do not believe in God so wouldn’t want to involve him in their loved ones funeral, a Catholic funeral may not be right for them in dealing with their grief
What are the three types of prayer for Catholics?
Vocal (worship out loud). Meditation (reflection) and Contemplation (bring themselves to God)
What are the five purposes of prayer?
Adoration, Thanksgiving, Repentance, Intercession and Petition (should not be the first and only reason for praying to God)
