Q

Scene 1

‘Chicken and cock crows’

A

-‘Chickens’ and a ‘cock crows outside’ which shows how Mai is still embracing rural Caribbean culture despite living in London
-Symbolises the elder generations distaste at English cultures and how desperately the immigrants try to cling onto a piece of back home (chickens out in the backyard).
-Del and Viv think this is really odd as they are Londoners and have never been to Jamaica so therefore, it shows how out of touch they are with their cultural heritage.
