how often should PWID and sex workers get tested for HIV
annually
how often should sexually active MSMs and transgender patients who have sex with men (multiple partners) be tested for HIV

a) Fourth-generation laboratory tests,
b) Third-generation laboratory tests,
c) All POCTs (including Determine HIV-1/2 Ab (third generation), INSTI HIV-1/2 Test and the OraQuick Rapid HIV-1/2 antibody Test),
a) 45 days
b) 60 days
c) 90 days
are Molecular assays (viral RNA or proviral DNA) recommended as part of routine HIV screening
no - only if diagnostic uncertaining use specialist pathways with virology
what antibodies do third and fourth generation HIV tests detect
IgM and IgG antibodies also detect p24 antigen
what type of antibodies do POCT HIV tests detect
IgG antibodies therefore only good in chronic disease
if a person lacks capacity to consent to a HIV test and has no advance directive or power of attorney on what grounds can you proceed to test
in patients best interest
If a person lacks capacity to consent to a HIV test and this lack of capacity is thought to be permanent e.g coma what is the next step you should take
see if they have appointed LPA or if they have advanced directives
which cohort of people should have annual HIV testing as a minimum
PWID
Sex workers (unless fall into other high risk groups such as transwomen or MSM test more frequently)
MSMs
uner 25s - annual ct/gc test
when should MSMs have regular 3 monthly screen for HIV
- on PrEP
- chess
- multiple sexual partners
- more than 10 sexual partners in the last 12 months
- condomless anal sex
