When can you disclose confidential info
- Law allows it (been broken)
- In clients best interest (harm to self)
- In public’s interest (harm may be caused to them)
- Client gives consent

Confidentiality
What does an ethically sport psychologist protect?
- Client from harm (first and foremost)
- themselves from harm (their own reputation)
- The profession itself
What to do if client comes to you with something we haven’t been trained in?
- Listen to client
- Explain this is out of our scope of training
- Refer to another practitioner (clinical or doctor)
- Still offer support to client
How do we know if we can help a clients needs
Ask theses questions to yourself

2. Am I competent

- Viewed seeking support as a weakness
- Fear SO may find out
- Media exaggerating issue
- Lack of KO of mental health issues
- Worried they’ll be misunderstood
- Bad past experience
- Men find it hardest to seek support
- Lack of KO of symptoms
