Q

What are 3 barriers in the GC filtration?

A
  1. Fenestrations in endothelium filter based on size of molecule
  2. Basement membrane is negatively charged (due to heparin sulfate) and therefore repels any negatively charged proteins that may have gotten through
  3. Final barrier are podocytes (epithealial foot processes) attached to the basement membrane, along with filtration slits that lie in between - both negatively charged/
