What is a visual cue?
Features of the environment that gives us information about the movement, distance and size of an object
What is visual constancies?
when objects look the same despite seeing them from different angle and distances
What is a binocular depth cue?
Seen with both eyes
What is a monocular depth cue?
Seen with one eye
What are the two binocular depth cues?
Convergence and Retinal Disparity
What are the four monocular depth cues?
Height in plane, Relative size, Occlusion, Linear perspective
What is convergence?
The eyes become closer together when objects are closer to us
What is retinal disparity?
Each eye sees things differently as they are 6cm apart on our faces. Retinal disparity is the difference between the left and right eye’s view
What is height in plane?
When an object is high up it appears further away
What is relative size?
Smaller objects seem further away
What is occlusion?
Objects that are in front of us seem closer whilst the objects behind seem further away
What is linear perspective?
When parallel lines (like a train track) draw closer together (converge) in the distance and end up looking like they’re touching
