Q

Explanation

A

EtCO2 is the concentration of CO2 in exhaled air and
approximates the partial pressure of CO2 in arterial blood

Waveform capnography during advanced life support uses
waveform capnography to confirm correct tracheal tube
placement and to monitor the quality of CPR.

An increase in ETCO2 during CPR may indicate that ROSC has
occurred.

Q

Assess ventilation

A

Squeeze the bag to ventilate the patient to assess efficacy.

It may take 6 ventilations to return an accuare ETC02 measurement

Q

Monitor the ETO2

A

Diminishing EtCO2 readings may be an indication to increase chest compression depth or change a tiring CC provider to optimise CPR
attempts.
