Receives information from taste receptors.
Gustatory Cortex
Receives sensory information from the olfactory sensors.
Olfactory Cortex
Receives information regarding balance and spatial orientation.
Vestibular Cortex
Receives information from the retinas.
Primary Visual Cortex
Monitors patterns of activity in the visual cortex and interprets the results.
Visual Association Area
Responsible for monitoring auditory information.
Primary Auditory Cortex
Monitors sensory activity in the auditory cortex and recognizes sounds, such as spoken words.
Auditory Association Area
Regulates the patterns of breathing and vocalization needed for normal speech.
Broca’s Area
Coordinates information relayed from the association areas of the cortex. Performs abstract intellectual functions such as predicting the consequences of events or actions.
Anterior Association Area (Prefrontal Cortex)
Controls learned eye movements, such as scanning lines of text.
