Q

Describe the PRACTICAL

A
  1. Start with a fixed volume of dilute sulfuric acid in a beaker
  2. Gently heat the acid until almost boiling
  3. Using a spatula, add small amounts of copper oxide to beaker.
  4. Stir solution - glass rod
  5. Solution will turn a blue colour as copper oxide reacts and DISAPPEARS.
  6. Keep adding copper oxide if the solution remains clear blue and then STOP ADDING if some powder remains after stirring.
  7. Use filtration to remove the unreacted copper oxide
  8. Place filtrated copper sulfate solution in an evaporating basin on a beaker full of boiling water ( on a bunsen burner set up) and heat gently.
  9. Heat until half of the solution remains
  10. Leave solution for 24 hours in a cool place for crystals to form
  11. Scrape copper sulfate crystals onto paper towel and gently pat dry.
