Richmond Park Conclusions

A

OVERALL - reject hypothesis - ‘Richmond park is a typical, temperate deciduous woodland’ - which made me conclude that human management has impacted Richmond park’s ability to become a TDW

Richmond park has areas which can be classified as a temperate, deciduous woodland,
sheen common more directly conforms to a temperate, deciduous forest as it has been classified that way,
Richmond park has received much more human management than sheen common so it more represents a temperate grassland,
deer grazing - stops tree growth and park is used for recreation

Q

Richmond Park Evaluations

A

Only went on one day – could have been anomalous - so go on more days
Transect did not cover all areas - so use multiple transects
Some measurements only taken once - so repeat three times and take an average.
Environmental impact assessment is subjective thus varies from person to person - so provide a reference chart for standardisation and get multiple people to do it and take an average to reduce subjectivity.
Not experts in recognising flora and fauna
We went in spring when flowers were out which helped us if they were flowering.
Couldn’t access trees due to processionary moth – estimation of age and circumference very inaccurate
Return during another season when this is not an issue.
Light meters were very sensitive and prone to wild variations so - take multiple readings or use a lightmeter instead of an app.
Tree height - use big measuring tape not an erratic app
