Q

Overall conclusion

A
  • Any error in the target-absent line ups for cartoons is a result from social factors rather than cognitive factors such as faulty memory. The social factor is the expectation they make a selection rather than a non-selection leading to false postive responses.

Errors cannot be explained by faulty memory of cartoon characters (as the children’s memory for the characters was excellent),

Q

Overall conclusions (2)

A
  • Overall, social factors play a larger role in the decision making process in target-absent line ups than target present ones.

Social vs cogntive effects are relative as both identification and rejection tasks will be affected to an extent by both social and cognitive factors.
