people with anxiety are at increased risk for alcohol use disorders. there seems to be a positive relationship between anxiety and alcohol use, but no relationship with alcohol abuse. also the other way around: individuals with alcohol dependence are at greater risk for developing anxiety

A

in some cases anxiety symptoms decrease after detoxification (then further treatment is not necessary). in other cases the anxiety is associated with a worse prognosis due to the higher risk for relapse.
