What?
Scrooge has found redemption. He is saying that he will endeavour to embrace the spirit of Christmas and to live his life with kindness, generosity, and compassion, not just during the holiday season but throughout the year. It signifies his willingness to mend his ways, reconnect with his estranged family, and help those in need.
I am as light as a feather, I am as happy as an angel, I am as merry as a schoolboy.
What?
These three adjacent similes reiterate the rebirth of Scrooge. He is no longer weighed down by chains (hence is as ‘light as a feather’), he is good (hence he is more angelic) and the painful experiences of youth have
And so, as Tiny Tim observed, God bless Us, Every One!
What?
This is the final line of the novel. The capitalisation of ‘Every’ and ‘One’ is interesting, as it makes them proper nouns (which they ordinarily aren’t). This choice by the writer emphasises the importance of the words. The inclusivity of the phrase ‘Every One’ reflects Scrooge’s newfound empathy towards the world and it’s inhabitants.
