How does IFF determine which mode is being used?

A

The interrogation signal consists of two 0.8 microsecond pulses. The time interval between the interrogation pulses determines the interrogation mode.

How is information stored in the interrogation?

A

There are Framing Pulses and within those are Information Pulses.

The Information Pulses represent bits.

Can clutter up the reply of interest.

What is Black IFF?

A

Antenna is rotating and providing pre-trigger signal but not transmitting. Would be for EMCON.

Here the antenna will continue to rotate even though the radar is not radiating. It must rotate IOT operate the IFF interrogators.
