What is a disagreement?

A

If I believe P and you disbelieve p, we disagree.
Example: laptops are easier to bring around
1. the person believes that it is convenient
2. I believe it is not easy because it heavy to carry around

what makes a belief rational?

A

your belief is rational= it is supported by your evidence

EXAMPLE: My belief that there is a desk is rational because I have good perceptual evidence for it

What makes a belief irrational?

A

your belief is irrational = it is not supported by your evidence

  1. Motivational errors: belief-motivated hopes or fears
    - wishful thinking - believing your team is going to win because you want them to win
    - Paranola- you convince your partner is cheating but don’t have evidence
  2. Misevaluation of evidence:
    - hasty generalization- I saw one older woman wearing a red hat so all women must wear that hat
  3. Not considering total evidence
