What is distribution ?
How a species is disturbed throughout a habitat
What is abundance ?
The frequency of a species throughout a habitat
What is the method used to measure distribution ?
We use a transect ( big tape measure)
Which involved placing the quadrant at regular intervals in a line
How do we measure abundance ?
Random coordinates must be generated and quadrants used at each point
A mean is then calculated to create an estimate abundance for the entire area
How do we use a quadrat?
If it’s a 5x5 sq= 25sq
If there are four spots containing flowers
Then 20% contained the plant species
As each Sq is 5% of the total
