Week 3 - Maintenance Strategies Flashcards
What are the three key types of maintenance approach?
Risk-based maintenance
Reliability centred maintenance
Remote condition monitoring
Describe risk-based maintenance.
Risk based maintenance strategies are based upon two main phases:
- Risk assessment (using a risk register & matrix)
and
- Maintenance planning based on the risk
Describe reliability centred maintenance.
Reliability centred maintenance is a framework that enables the definition of a complete maintenance regime.
What 4 key questions is reliability centred maintenance based upon?
- What is the system FUNCTION
- What functional FAILURES are likely to OCCUR
- What are the CONSEQUENCES of failure
- What can be done to REDUCE the failure
Describe remote condition monitoring, as a form of condition based maintenance.
Remote condition monitoring uses sensor and live performance data to make decisions about the assets, including automated inspection and data collection.
What must be considered when applying a replacement and depreciation model.
- Financial case considered only.
- Output is heavily reliance on having access to accurate, up-to-date information
What are the positives of a replacement and depreciation model?
- Provides a view of when assets should be replaced or upgraded based upon efficient spend of money.
- Helps a company develop a spending plan, and plan for future investments.
What are the limitations of a replacement and depreciation model?
- Reliant upon projections of future cost and depreciation
- Based on estimates which may prove to be wrong
