Q

How does glucose get into the cells.

A

Glucose is found in carbohydrates, they get digested into glucose molecules that are released into the bloodstream, where it dissolves into the plasma (liquid part of blood). The dissolved glucose diffuse into cells that need respiration.

Q

How does oxygen get into cells.

A

Air you breathe in contain oxygen that fill the alveoli in your lungs. The air gets diffused into your bloodstream. The oxygen is carried by heamoglobin in the read blood cells, to a cell that needs oxygen, it diffuses to that cell.

Q

How does Carbon Dioxide leave the body?

A

It diffuses out of the cell and is carried by the plasma in the blood to the lungs, then air sacs where it gets exhaled

Q

Define anaerobic respiration.

A

The type of respiration that doesn’t require oxygen, that your body uses when its not recieving oxygen fast enough for aerobic to take place.

Q

What are the 2 reasons we respire aerobically normally.

A
  1. It produces more energy than anaerobic
  2. Anaerobic respiration causes buildup of lactic acid that causes painful cramps.

Q

What is meant by Oxygen debt

A

After anaerobic respiration, you keep breathing heavily, as you need the extra oxygen to break down the lactic acid, which is known as oxygen debt.
