What is Bowlby’s theory of the internal working model ?
Bowlby sees attachments as monotropic where infants have an innate tendency to become attached to a particular adult who interacts with them the most sensitively, usually the mother
What is the monitropic attachment described as ?
- it is unique
- the first to develop
- the strongest
- also forms a template for future relationships
- forms a schema of relationships
- it forms a model for relationships which the infant will expect from others
What is meant by the continuity hypothesis?
It sees children attachemnt types bejng reflected in later relationships
So there will be continuity between early attachment experieneces and later relationships

They found that securely attached 3-5 year olds were more confident and formed close relationships
