if its macbeth:

A

evil, why the witches have targeted him
he has a thought of murdering the king immediately, inherent evil
character, talk about the speech
persuades himself
goes against banquo’s wisdom
puts responsibility on macbeth

19
Q

if its kingship:

A

what is a good king, not Duncan, can’t see the traitors
can’t spot the old and new thane of cawdor
bad judge of human character: bad king
fate decided to get rid of him
macbeth: good king, he is very strong, knows how to get his own way and how to keep banquo quiet but also has bad features of lack of chain of being understanding
keeps killing his allies and Nobels which makes him a bad king
a good king is somebody who is morally on the side of god but also could be a machevailleon: powerful, brutal but keeps all his allies

rejected waiting, man of action
macbeth does not have a clear head commits himself to evil
macbeth has no trusted Nobels other than his wife: no political advice, goes to witches
Malcolm presented as king, an image of what kingship should be

king James I is a good king, therefore support him Nobels, don’t make him try to reach out to you

A

Macbeth is the person who is persuaded by the witches
lady macbeth is not evil enough
she think she can be cruel “put all this night’s great business in my dispatch” she’ll kill duncan but she can’t because he looked too much like “my father as he slept”
father symbolises patriarchy
link to God

patriarchal influence stops lady macbeth: LINK TO WITCHES WHY DO THEY HAVE BEARDS

“my dearest partner in greatness” women were deeply subservient of men, but macbeth treats her highly
the ambition is not enough it’s vaulting ambition that falls on the other: the other LMB
she’s the planner and persuader

“why do I yield to that suggestion” so does lady macbeth theyre soooo well suited together

“thou can’t not say I did it” lady macbeth manages to cover for him during the banquet power of women

always bails him out, but she can’t during the banquet because it cannot be covered up

when macbeth goes to the witches its a rejection of his wife: get a doctor to help her, cares for her “the thane of fife had a wife”: finds macbeth a varatious murderer, role as a woman, wife has been killed nothing is sacred

can’t have a child: child has just died so can’t become successful in the Jacobean era by being a wife but can become successful as queen

conclusion is the same “feind like queen”
