Extended knowledge Flashcards
1
Q
Does the talus have any muscles attaching to it?
A
No.
2
Q
What covers the talus?
A
Articular cartilage.
3
Q
What can the talus be known as?
A
- A link bone.
- Its held in place by ligaments.
4
Q
What does the calcaneus provide?
A
- A large moment arm for the triceps surae.
5
Q
What is the triceps surae?
A
- The two heads of gastrocnemius + soleous make it up.
6
Q
What are the actions of the triceps surae?
A
- Plantarflexion.
7
Q
Does the triceps surae act on the subtalar joint?
A
- Yes.
- But it passes through the axis of rotation so there is no moment arm for eversion or inversion.
8
Q
There is a ‘bulge’ sometimes in the gastrocnemius. What is this?
A
- It is caused by a facet.
- A dip in a bone where its tendon of origin arises.
- Its function would be to increase the moment arm for knee flexion.
- And so provides knee flexion torque.
9
Q
What is muscle synergy?
A
- The function of a muscle whereby it cacels out any secondary + unwanted movements.
- To produce a desired action.
