Get up
The sign for “stand” uses an upside down “V” hand.
Shower
Pretend as if your shower head is slightly above your head. Now open and close your hand real quickly. as if the water is coming towards you.
Iron
To do the sign for “metal” or “steel” place an “X” handshape under your chin near your throat. Slide the X forward about 3 inches and repeat.
Study
To sign study, hold up your non-dominant palm flat and horizontally (lying on its pinkie finger side) as it is facing you. Then take your dominant hand in the form of the ASL number 5 sign and wiggle your fingers in front of your non-dominant palm as your dominant hand moves back and forth a couple of times.
Work
Work is signed by closing both hands into fists in front of you, then tapping your dominant fist on top of your non-dominant fist a couple of times at the wrist area. It is as if you are hard at work doing something.
Cook
The ASL sign for cook looks like you are flipping pancakes on a skillet. Your non-dominant hand is flat in front of your body, representing the skillet.
Shopping
The American Sign Language (ASL) sign for “shop / shopping” To sign “shop” do a repeated version of the sign buy.
eat
Make the sign for eat by taking your dominant hand, forming a flat ASL letter O sign, and tapping your fingers to your mouth once. To sign food, make the same handshape but tap your fingers to your mouth twice. This universal sign for eating is the same sign used for food.
Money
The sign for money uses a flattened “O” (as if holding onto some money) and smacks it (lightly) twice onto the palm of the base hand.
Store
The sign for “store” (as in a place that sells things) is made by forming both hands into flattened-O shapes (as if you were holding a sheet of paper) with the hands pointing downward. Pivot both of your hands forward (away from your body) twice. The fingertips swing forward and back a couple times.
