What is
Scarce Earth?
A project of McLaren Vale that focuses on the differences of geology of where Shiraz is grown in the region rather than regionality itself.
====================
All wines are sourced from a ‘single site’ – a small plot of land with a unique flavour profile and personality.
- wines must be produced from vines that are at least ten years of age,
- may not be excessively shaded by oak, faults, over/under ripe fruits
Scarce Earth focuses on the effects of geology of the single site - its soil, the climate and topography on the wine style. Scarce Earth is NOT defined by district, but by geology.
- begun in 2011 for the 2009 vintage release.
