16.6 Anatomy: Muscles of the forearm Flashcards
(15 cards)
What are the flexors of the digits?
Flexor digitorum superficialis
Flexor pollicis longus
Flexor digitorum profundis
Where does FDS insert?
Splits and inserts on base of middle phalynx
Where does FDP insert?
Burst through split of FDS, across and onto distal phalangeal
Where do FDP and FPL arise from?
Deep muscles
FDP: ulna
FPL: radius
What do and don’t go through the carpal tunnel?
Do:
FDS (3/4 over 2/5)
FDP
Don’t:
FCR
Where does pronator quadratus lie?
Over distal aspect of radius/ulna
What are the main groups of posterior muscles of the forearm?
Where do they originate from?
Superficial:
Radialis
Extensors (digits)
Abductor/extensors (thumb)
Deep
(Originate from lateral epicondyle except pollicus)
What are the posterior ‘radialis’ muscles of the forearm?
Brachioradialis
Extensor carpi radialis longus
Extensor carpi radialis brevis
What are the extensors (digits) of the posterior forearm
Extensor digitorum
Extensor digiti minimi
Extensor carpi ulnaris
What are the pollicus muscles of the posterior forearm?
Abductor pollicis longus
Extensor pollicis brevis
Extensor pollicis longus
What are the deep muscles of the posterior forearm?
Anconeus
Supinator
Extensor indicis
What is weird about brachioradialis?
Action is flexion
What happens when you contract FCR and ECRL/B
Cancel out actions and produce radial deviation
What happens when you contract ECU and FCU
Cancel out actions and produce ulnar deviation
What is the primary supinator of the forearm?
What runs through it?
Supinator (posterior interosseous nerve runs through it)
