16
Q

What is a Functional group?

A

Is a part of a molecule that largerly dictates how the molecule acts/will act.
Ex. All alkenes have the functional group C=C so they act the same.

17
Q

What is a homologous series?

A
Each family has its own homologous series which every compound in it fits. They have similar properties that change as the chains of carbon get longer.
Ex. As the chain gets longer in Alkanes
- melting and boiling points raise
- viscosity increases
-flammability decreases
