Q

What landmarks should be identified when performing a proximal paravertebral block?

A

Transverse processes of t13, L1 and L2 are found
A 6” needle is inserted in a ventral fashion until the transverse process is hit, then walked off the caudal edge of the transverse process and lidocaine is injected

Q

Explain the technique to perform a distal paravertebral block

A

Find the transverse processes of L1, L2, SKIP L3, and L4. Because the ventral and dorsal branches have split at this point, lidocaine must be injected above and below the transverse processes
