Benedict’s syndrome: where is the stroke, and what are the symptoms?

A

Stoke of Penetrating branches of the Posterior cerebral artery
Like Webers syndromes plus the effects of the red nucleus and more substantial nigra
Contralateral hemiplegia
Ipsilateral 3rd nerve palsy
Severe gait disturbances - effect is contralateral

Webers syndrome: where is the stroke and what are the symptoms?

A

Stoke of Penetrating branches of the Posterior cerebral artery
Affects the 3rd cranial nerve - ipsilateral opthalmoplegia, no decussation of the 3rd cranial nerve
Pyramidal tracts - contralateral hemiplegia (tracts haven’t decussated yet)
Substantial nigra - some Parkinsonian effects

Wallenbergs syndrome: where is the stroke and what are the symptoms?

A

Stroke effects the Posterolateral medulla
Infarct in PICA
Ipsilateral facial sensory loss
Contralateral body sensory loss
Dizzyness, ataxia, dysarthria, Horner’s syndrome

What is the name given to the condition of vivid visual hallucinations of people (sometime miniature) that can occur in patients with partial or total blindness?

A

Charles Bonnet Syndrome, or visual release hallucinations.
