Q

If two atoms of Na and 2 atoms of Cl are chemically combined to form the compound NaCl, how many atoms of Na and Cl are in the compound? (On the right side of the arrow.)
2 Na + 2 Cl –> 2 NaCl

A

There are still 2 atoms of Na and 2 atoms of Cl, but they are joined together now into 2 molecules of NaCl. The atoms do not disappear, they are still there, but recombined!
