1933 - persecution of the Jews

1933
• Jews banned from government jobs, owning land & Jewish teachers sacked in schools. • 1st April 1933 – The boycott of Jewish Shops and Businesses.
The Nazis tried to stop German people using Jewish shops and businesses. The SA painted the Jewish star and the word ‘ Jude’ on the window of all Jewish businesses. The SA stood outside with banners stopping people. Shops were damaged with windows smashed.

• Some regions started to ban Jews from public spaces such as parks and swimming pools.
• Some regions started to segregate public areas to keep ‘normal’ Germans ‘safe from infection’.

1935 - the Nuremberg laws

A

The Nuremberg Laws which were: 1. The Reich Law on Citizenship:
• Only those of German blood could be a German citizen.
• Jews lost the rights of citizens such as the vote and holding a German passport.
2. The Reich Law for the Protection of German Blood and Honour
• Jews were no longer allowed to marry or have a sexual relationship with a German citizen. • Jews banned from joining the German armed forces.

1938 - the persecution of the Jews

1938
• Jews had to register all of their possessions with the Nazi government.
• Jews had to carry identity cards with them at all times.
• Germany unites with Austria. All Jews in Austria are persecuted the same as in Germany.
• Jewish Children are banned from most schools.
• Jews forced to sell their businesses in a process known as Aryanisation .
