Non stress test

A

Measures baseline FHR, accelerations, and variability
Reactive test = 2 accelerations of 15 beats/min above baseline lasting 15 seconds each in a 20 minute pd
Usually done after 32 weeks

A

Must have 3 contractions lasting 40-60 seconds in 10 minute pd
Approximates stress a fetus might have in first stage of labor
Usually done when no danger of preterm labor or uterine rupture

A

Interpreting BPP

A

10 points - Normal Repeat weekly.
8 - normal repeat weekly or twice weekly in diabetics or postdates. Oligohydramnios = deliver.
6 - Suspect Chronic Asphyxia if greater than 36 weeks deliver.
4 - Suspect Chronic Asphyxia if > or = to 32 weeks = deliver.
0-2 - Strongly suspect asphyxia= deliver regardless of age.

Preeclampsia - at diagnosis >26 weeks.
Post Dates -  41-42 weeks.
IUGR - at diagnosis.
Previous Stillbirth - at 32 weeks.
