-Berlin had been divided since 1945

-13th Aug, USSR started to build a wall to separate Berlin
-Over the next 7 days a concrete wall was built
-The USA sent a complaint but the USSR did nothing

-Made the USA look weak and reminded the danger of nuclear weapons
