Black panthers
-focused on ghetto improvements=established clinics in which advice was given on health, welfare and legal rights, served up free breakfasts to poor established summer schools for study black lit and culture
growth of black power
-66 James Meredith was shot by a white racist on a protest=SCLC SNCC took up the march under Carmichael SNCC members chanted black power and sung =first time the words gained widespread publicity SNCC AND CORE=growing black radicalism when they expelled white members and declared NVDA inappropriate

-Kings productive leadership of short term anti segregationist campaigns were demonstrated in Birmingham and selma as e knew southern law officials would treat protestors poorly =media attention
Birmingham 1963=got children as young 6 to protest=jfk was sickened by the tv scenes of Bull conner use of dogs and hoses on marches =encouraged JFK promote civil rights bill

SNCC focused on empowering local black communities they held citizenship classes and assisted black sharecroppers in voter reg in Delta
-joined in on CORE freedom rides 61=white racists attacked the bus=Robert Kennedy working on implementing Supreme court rulings
