Q

What was the impact on law making powers?

A

Prior to the change in the constitution all indigenous issues had been left with the states because they were deemed to have more specialised knowledge. This referendum gave the Commonwealth Parliament the power to legislate for Indigenous people in the states and include them in the national census.
