He is skinny, and his skin is gray, he is balding, his knees are bigger than his thighs, most of his teeth have fallen out.
WHAT ROLE DOES O’BRIEN PLAY IN THIS SECTION
O’brien is an interrogator. He is interrogating Winston and making Winston commit doublethink. He is trying to change Winston. He is trying to make Winsotn love big brother.
WHAT THINGS DOES WINSTON CONFESS TO
he confessed to the assanation of eminent party members, the distribution of seditious pamphlets, embezzlement of public funds, sale of military secrets, sabotage of every kind. He confessed that he had been a spy in the pay of eastasian government as far back as 1968. He confessed that he was a religious believer, and admirer of capitalism, and a sexual pervert. He confessed to killing his wife. He confessed that for years he had been in touch with Goldstein and had been a part of an underground organization that had included almost every human being he had ever known.
EXPLAIN THIS QUOTATION: “WHO CONTROLS THE PAST CONTROLS THE FUTURE; WHO CONTROLS THE PRESENT CONTROLS THE PAST.”
The party controls the records and memories of the people in the present so they control the past. and since they control the past the party also controls the future.

To be able to recognize your own motives.
if one can merge themselves with the party and become the party, then they are all powerful.
power is inflicting pain and humiliation, and tearing human minds to pieces and putting them back together again of your own choosing.
