1st Line Of Defense Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
What are the main different between innate immune system and adaptive immune system, explain why?
A
- Innate is non specific immunity whereas adaptive is specific
- Innate is faster as its not specific whereas adaptive is slower but faster later
- Innate doesn’t have any immunological memory whereas adaptive has immunological memory
- Innates defense is not long lasting whereas adaptive is long lasting bc of memory cells
- Innate occurs at the site of infection whereas adaptive occurs in secondary lymphnoid organ
2
Q
What are the similarities between innate and adaptive
A
- Provides protection agaisnt pathogen
- Both can destroy intracellular and extracelullar Pathogens.
- Both targets non self antigens
3
Q
What are the main barriers in the 1st LOD
A
- Physical is to prevent entry of pathogen via body
- Chemical barriers uses enzyme to kill pathogen and prevent invasion
- Involves floran body
4
Q
Give 2 examples each for barriers in animals
A
Physical: coughing, sneezing, nose hair, intact skin
Chemical: lysosomes (tears, sweat), sebum
Microbiological barrier: flora in vagina and mouty
5
Q
2 examples of barriers each in plants
A
Physical: sunken, hairy stomata, waxy surface
Chemical: caffeine, cintronella
