What is Homeostasis?
The need to maintain balance in biological organisms
Explain Simple Diffusion.
This is where the molecules slip through the phospholipid bilayer. The molecules move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. This needs no energy. These molecules are usually Hydrophobic.
What are the 3 types of Passive diffusion?
- Osmosis
- Simple Diffusion
- Facilitated Diffusion
What is Osmosis?
When fluid/gas tends to pass through a semipermeable membrane. The fluid/gas is moving from areas of low concentration to and area of high concentration.
What is Facilitated Diffusion?
Molecules go across the lipid bilayer without energy from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration, the molecules don’t just slip through they need help so they get pulled by a carrier protein or they go through a protein channel.
What is ATP
Energy that is used to boost the molecules across the lipid bilayer (it is also known as the adenosine triphosphate)
What is Active Transport?
When molecules can only pass through the membrane by using ATP to boost it. This moves from areas of low concentration to areas of high concentration.
