2 - Coasts (Landforms/scapes of coastal erosion) Flashcards
(6 cards)
1
Q
What type of coastlines do depositional landforms occur at?
A
Low energy coastlines.
2
Q
What is a beach?
A
An accumulation of material deposited between the low spring tide and the highest point reached by storm water.
3
Q
What is a beach made up of?
A
Sand and shingle.
4
Q
Describe a sand beach,.
A
A beach with a gentler gradient due to small particles size. It is compact and little percolation and little energy lost so backwash carries material back down the beach.
5
Q
Where do ridges and runnels develop?
A
At the low water mark.
6
Q
What happens if shingle makes up the whole beach?
A
It will have a steeper gradient as water percolates through shingle so backwash is limited.
