Q

Describe a sand beach,.

A

A beach with a gentler gradient due to small particles size. It is compact and little percolation and little energy lost so backwash carries material back down the beach.

Q

What happens if shingle makes up the whole beach?

A

It will have a steeper gradient as water percolates through shingle so backwash is limited.
