A stretchy tape used frequently in circumferential dressings and pressure dressings.
Available in variable widths.
What is Microfoam Tape?
A stretchy and wet proof tape often used for pressure dressings and to provide a waterproof barrier under a tourniquet.

What is paper tape?
Paper tape does not stretch and is only mildly sticky.
Used to tape down 4 X 4 dressing sponges and on people who are allergic to other tapes.

Paper tape has variable widths.
What is transpore tape?
Transpore tape is commonly used for dressings in the OR.
It has small holes (pores) in it to allow the dressing to breathe and tears easily along the pores.
What are the characteristics of transpore tape?
Transpore tape has variable widths.
What are Steri-strips?
Steri-strips, also known as skin closure tapes, are applied directly over the incision to bring skin edges together.
What is the size of Steri-strips?
Steri-strips have a variable width of ½”-1” and lengths of 4”.
When are Steri-strips applied?
Steri-strips are applied after sub-cuticular closures and are never applied over skin staples or super-cuticular stitches.
How does the adhesive of Steri-strips work?
The adhesive is intensified as it is warmed by the patient’s skin.
How long do Steri-strips stay on?
Steri-strips are designed to stay on until they naturally fall off.
What is Mastisol?
Mastisol is a liquid adhesive that provides a sticky surface to help Steri-strips adhere to the skin surface.
How is Mastisol applied?
Mastisol is dispensed by crushing a glass vial, allowing the liquid to permeate a cotton tip, then rubbed onto clean dry skin until tacky before applying Steri-strips.
What technique is used when applying Mastisol?
Mastisol is applied using sterile technique.
What is Medipore?
Medipore, also known as Mefix, is a supply applied over 4 X 4 dressings.
Sometimes the roll is perforated for convenience, but it often requires four hands to apply due to its width and stickiness.
What is Ortho Glass?
Ortho Glass, also known as fiberglass splint, is a supply wrapped in padding and sealed foil.
Care must be taken when cutting it, as the package must be resealed airtight.
How is Ortho Glass activated?
The hardening agent in Ortho Glass is activated by dipping the material in warm water.
It is then molded to the patient’s extremity and wrapped with an ace bandage, hardening within 10 minutes.
