Seems that when difficult is at the beginning of the sentence, then NO de is needed but if it is later in the sentence DE is needed.
El chileno es difícil de ententer.

Ayer llegue tarde a clase.
Mañana asistiré a la clase a tiempo.
No me gusta llegar tarde a ningún sitio.

Estoy tarde is WRONG. It´s Llego tarde a … Llegar tarde a algo… Estoy tarde is like you are disabled.
It is asistir and not atender. Atender means to take care of algo-alguien.
