Miguel: Last week I went to Los Planetas gig. Julia: lit. I love Los Planetas. This week they’ve played in my city.

Ayer llegué tarde a trabajar porque perdí el autobús.

Yesterday I was late to work because I missed the bus.

Lo siento, voy a llegar tarde. He perdido el autobús

I’m sorry, I’m going to be late. I’ve missed the bus.

To talk about actions that have happened in the recent past or that have a connection with the present: Hoy he terminado todo el trabajo. (Today I have finished all my work.)
When we don’t want to specify when an action happened: ¿Habéis comprado las entradas para el concierto? (Have you bought your tickets for the gig?)

Miguel: La semana pasada fui al concierto de Los Planetas. Julia: Me encantan Los Planetas. Esta semana han tocado en mi ciudad.

Hoy he tenido una reunión con mi equipo. (Today I’ve had a meeting with my team.)
Este año he viajado tres veces a España. (This year I’ve travelled three times to Spain.)
Aún no he preparado la presentación. (I haven’t prepared the presentation yet.)

Perdí el autobús. (I missed the bus.)
He perdido el autobús. (I’ve missed the bus.)

Carmen talks about an action that happened in the past and has a connection to the present moment. Lo siento, voy a llegar tarde he perdido el autobús.

As we mentioned earlier, when we don’t want to specify the time when something has happened we can use “pretérito perfecto”.

He tenido mucho trabajo. (I have had lots of work.)
Han ido de vacaciones a la playa. (They have gone on holiday to the beach.)
¿Habéis comprado entradas para el concierto? (Have you bought tickets for the gig?)
