whats a titrant
solution with known concentration
what is titration
the process of slowly adding a standart solution (titrant) to a solution of unknown concentration (analyte) until endpoint, or a neutralization point is reached. This is done in order to determine the concentration of the analyte
whats neutralization
a reaction where base and acid react to form water and salt
how to tell that an element is an acid
1st - H
2nd - from vertical solubility table (except OH)
how to tell that an element is a base
1st - metal
2nd - OH
order of balancing
metals
non-metals
H
O2
what product is formed, how
metal from base and acid residue from acid
indicators and how pH changes (from acidi to neutral and basic)
litmus (red, purple, blue)
methylorange (red, orange, yellow)
phenolphtholein (clear, clear, bright pink)
whats molarity
way of measuring moles per liter, another way of expressing conecentration
order to solve calculations with chemical reactions
- write reactants and products
- charges and indexes of the product
- balance the reaction
- whats given what to find
- find compound moles (coefficient)
- form a proportion (x-what u look for)
- recalculate from mol to what u need
