1

How do strong and weak acid's dissociation equations compare?

Strong

HA(aq) →  H+ + A-

Weak

HA(aq) ⇔  H+ + A-

2

What is the acid dissociation constant?

An expression used for weak acids

3

What is the purpose of pKa?

  • Ka gives small, negative indicies which are difficult to compare

pKa = -logKa

As Ka gets larger, the acid is a stronger weak acid

As pKa gets smaller, the acid is a stronger weak acid
